Championship Bound! VB advances to MIAA Finals

Chloe Webber played with a vengeance to lead the Britons into the Championship match.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — See you in the Championship.

For the first time in program history, the No. 24 ranked Albion College volleyball team will play in the MIAA Championship match. On Friday, the Britons dominated Hope College in a 3-0 win.

Out to avenge a 3-2 loss from late September, the Brits were ready as ever, holding the momentum for the entirety of the match.

Up 14-12 in the first, the Brits went on a small 3-0 to swing the match in favor of the No. 3 seed. Ja'Nyece Larry and Chloe Webber registered kills, combined with an attack error by Hope for a 17-12 lead.

Two Flying Dutch errors sent Albion into the next set with a 1-0 advantage.

In a tight second set, any Hope momentum was quickly stifled by the Brits. All tied up at 13, two Webber kills and another by Olivia Alexander pushed the Albion lead to three points.

Hope rallied immediately, as the Flying Dutch would eventually tie the game at 20. Albion scored five straight points to take the set and go into the third with a two games to none advantage. In that stretch, Alexander fired off three service aces — including the game-winner.

Led by Webber, the Britons built a sizable 11-4 lead in the final set and never looked back. Albion would win with a kill by Webber, 25-14.

Webber was phenomenal, hitting a .625 and 16 kills — both game-highs. Alexander added seven kills and 11 digs.

An absolute menace at the net, senior middle had five total blocks in the win. Mariah Brenz dished out 32 assists, while libero Courtney Companion had 13 digs.

Albion extends its magical season, moving to 25-5 and most importantly — getting one more day to play.

Tomorrow, the Britons will play the winner of the Calvin/Adrian match at 7 p.m. The game will once again be hosted by Calvin University.
