Men's and women's wrestling kicks off 2022-23 season

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The second year of the Albion College men's and women's wrestling got underway Saturday at the Pointer Open. The Britons saw some good things on the mats in their 2022-23 debut.

On the men's side, Owen McDaniel won the consolation bracket at 184. The sophomore went 3-1 on the day, including a pin in 3:57.

Max Honiss finished fourth at 149. He pinned his first opponent before a pair of major decisions set the sophomore up in good position in the bracket. Logan Haughton went 2-2 at 149 for the Britons. 

At 285, CJ Krum took fifth overall. After a pair of tight wins (5-4, 5-3), a loss sent him into the wrestlebacks. He pinned teammate Owen Miller in the fifth place match in 5:25. Miller started his day off pinning his first two opponents (2:07, 2:37).

Three Albion wrestlers competed at 165 – Peyton Brooks (2-2), Tanner Beach (1-2) and Chris Mills (1-2). 

Jimmy Buurma finished 0-2 at 157. At 147, Brixton Bright and Jack Smith each went 0-2. Cade Odrobina was 0-2 at 125.

For the women, Danielle Ruiz was fourth in her collegiate debut, going 3-2. She won via tech fall twice and finished the day with a pin at 130. 

Hannah Palise was also fourth for Albion – this one at 136. She tech falled two opponents on the day. Hannah Arledge also competed at 136, going 0-2.

At 109, Gabby Motz was 1-2, earning her first collegiate pin (:37). Lynsey Light finished 0-2. 

Both teams will be in action at Adrian College on Nov. 12.
