CHICAGO, Ill. – First dual of the season. First win of the season.

On Wednesday, the Albion College men's wrestling team competed in its first dual of the 2022-23 season. Coming away with a 20-18 win, the Britons received some huge performances from its young, but incredibly talented, lineup.

In his first match of the season, Benyamin Kamali got the Brits started with a tech fall at 125. Kamali racked up a 19-4 win, giving Albion five points out of the gate.

Freshman Austin Matheney added to the Albion lead with a win at 133. Gritting out a 7-5 decision, the visitors held an 8-0 lead after the first two matchups. At 141, Aidan Bernard followed with an 11-5 victory, giving the Brits an 11-0 advantage.

The Maroons answered throughout the middle matchups. A major decision and a tech fall put Chicago on the board, cutting the Albion lead to 11-9 halfway through the match. At 165, a win by the Maroons gave them a 12-11 lead.

After another Chicago win at 174, Owen McDaniel abruptly stopped any momentum by the Maroons. The sophomore pinned his opponent in just 2:45 – picking up a big six points at 184.

Classmate Bode Brown went on to give the Brits a 20-15 lead heading into the final matchup with a 7-3 win at 197. Despite dropping, CJ Krum hung tough in his match, as a pin would've sent the Maroons home with the win.

The men's team will be idle until the Albion College Invitational, held on Nov. 20.
