Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's hoops rings Belles for big win

ALBION – Dominant.

From the get-go, the Albion College women's basketball team responded after a loss on Monday with an 88-56 win over St. Mary's College. Albion shot over 50 percent from the field, picking up a key conference victory.

Elena Welker scored a game-high 19 points in the win. The junior added six rebounds and four assists to her sparkling performance. Sophomore Dareonna Little scored 12 points in the victory. Classmate and fellow post Daniah Beavers also contributed 12 points and brought down seven rebounds off the bench.

Senior captain Cierra Cole was excellent on all fronts, dishing out seven assists while scoring seven points.

The Britons opened the game on a 17-1 run and never looked back. With 3:29 to play in the first, the hosts had already built a sizeable advantage. During that run, Audrey DeWaters scored three of her nine points, going a perfect 3 of 3 from the field. After one, the Brits led, 19-8.

Albion inflated the lead to 20-plus in the second quarter to keep the distance from the Belles. Going into the locker room, the Britons were up 46-24.

Lolo Reed totaled eight points, five assists and five rebounds. Making the most of her limited minutes, Athena Samson scored seven points as well.

Bolstered by Beavers and DeWaters, the Briton bench scored 40 points. Albion also rallied for 46 points in the paint and 22 points off turnovers.

Albion hosts Alma on Wednesday for Senior Night and their final regular season home game. Prior to the game, the Britons will honor their lone senior and key team asset, Cierra Cole. Tip off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
