Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

MLAX routs Kzoo behind Rottell, Tatar

ALBION – Backed by a career-high 12 points by Ethan Rottell, the Albion College men's lacrosse team throttled Kalamazoo College, 22-4, on Tuesday evening. With one game to go in the regular season, the Britons improve to 11-4 overall, 4-1 in the MIAA.

One day after Rottell was named Top Sophomore Male Athlete at the SAAC Student Athlete Recognition, he put on a show, scoring six times while dishing out six assists.

Rottell's 12 points is tied for most in a game, with three previous occurrences by Jace Conley

Also setting a new record was Joey Tatar, who caused 10 turnovers in the win.

Senior captain Gerald Haadsma scored three goals and tacked on an assist. Sam Puzevic also recorded four points, with one goal and three assists.

Late in the game, Jacob Castles scored a hat trick – all three his first goals of the season.

It was a tight game early on before Albion pulled away for good. Albion led just 3-2 late in the first before two goals in the final 30 seconds by Conley and Rottell pushed the Britons ahead by three after one.

After a Kalamazoo score, Albion closed out the first half on a 5-0 run to take a 10-3 lead at the break. In the second quarter, Rottell (2), Thrall, Conley and Haadsma all tallied goals for the Britons.

Outscoring the Hornets 5-0 in the third, Albion broke the game open. Rottell scored twice – once man-up – in the quarter. The Britons took a significant 15-3 lead into the final period.

The Britons led the game in shots (71-33), ground balls (50-27) and EMOs (2-3). Albion was also near-perfect on the clear, converting 24 of 26 attempts.

Haadsma picked up seven ground balls while sophomore Gage Thrall scooped up a team-best 10.

Jack Gogonis (5-0) made nine saves while allowing just three goals in nearly 49 minutes of work.

Conley's 77 goals and 6.87 points per game lead Division III nationally.

On Saturday, the Brits head to Alma to wrap up the regular season. The Britons have already guaranteed themselves a spot in next week's MIAA Tournament. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
