Equestrian makes history at IHSA Nationals

HARRISBURG, Pa. – Over a four day span, the Albion College Equestrian teams competed in the 2022 IHSA National Championships. As a team, the western team was in action as well as Aria Morgan showing as an individual. For hunt seat, senior Celia Hilden and sophomore Delaney Garon qualified for Albion.

As a team, the Britons saw nine different riders compete. Carli Kerns led the way, taking fourth in Level II Western Horsemanship. Junior Robert Warwick added a fifth place finish in Level II Ranch Riding. Also finishing fifth was freshman Jenna Smith in Rookie Western Horsemanship.

Marty Cash and Emily Brooks both took home sixth place finishes in their events for the team. Brooks competed in Beginner Western Horsemanship, while Cash was an Open Western Horsemanship rider.

Rounding out the team was Morgan and Aubrey Kruske. They both placed ninth in their events.

As a team, the Britons finished seventh in their first-ever western appearance.

In her individual events, Morgan was sixth in Open Western Horsemanship and tenth in Open Reining.

On the hunt seat side, Garon placed fifth in Individual Introductory Equitation. In Individual Intermediate Equitation over Fences, Hilden was a top 16 finalist.

Junior Hannah Desrochers was awarded Volunteer of the National Championship Show as a result of her dedicated effort to support the event.

"It was a great run at the Western Team's first appearance at Nationals and impressive for two of our Hunt Seat riders to perform and excel in very tough competition," said head coach Adam D'Agostino.
