8-0h yeah! No. 22 VB stays perfect

ALBION – There certainly was a buzz in Kresge Gymnasium, as the No. 22 Albion College volleyball team defeated Anderson University, 3-1. Just hours before the match, the Britons were ranked in the latest AVCA Top 25 Poll – the first time in program history. 

Once again, the Brits relied on their two stellar middles – Jesse Hepner and Chloe Webber. Webber led the attack with 17 kills as Hepner added 13. Hepner attacked at a .500 clip as Webber was .438 for the night. 

After Anderson stunned the crowd – and the Britons — with a 25-19 win in the first set, Albion stormed back, using the momentum from a raucous crowd to even the match at one. In the second set, the Brits attacked at a stout .400 percentage.

Albion took a decisive 25-21 third set victory, capitalizing on seven Anderson errors. In the final set, Jenna Schienke slammed home a kill to send the No. 22 Brits home victorious and remain a perfect 8-0.

Schienke – playing six rotations – finished with 11 digs, three blocks and six kills. Junior libero Courtney Companion led Albion with 18 digs. 

Mariah Brenz – the reigning MIAA Specialist of the Week – served up 46 assists in the win. 

As aforementioned, the middles were incredible, with Webber tallying four blocks and Hepner with two.

Albion had 11 service aces in the match.

The history continues to be written in Albion, as the 8-0 start is the best in history. 

Friday begins a big weekend for the Brits, as they will host a seven-game tournament. On Friday, Albion will play Wilmington and Wheaton with game times set for 4 and 8 p.m.
