Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Perfect 10! No. 22 VolleyBrits remain unbeaten

Rolling to wins on Senior Night, Albion is now 10-0

ALBION – On Senior Night, the No. 22 Albion College volleyball team swept both opponents, picking up wins over Wilmington and Wheaton in Day One of the Albion/Olivet Tournament. After the second match, the Brits recognized middle Jesse Hepner for her incredible contributions to the program.

Albion is now 10-0 as they continue to tack onto their best start in program history.

Hepner, on her Senior Night, totaled 13 kills on the evening.

GAME ONE: Albion 3 Wilmington 0

Capitalizing off 17 Quaker attack errors, the Britons pulled through for a first match win of the weekend. Fifth year senior Chloe Webber led Albion with 12 kills and 4 blocks.

In a much tighter first set than anticipated, Albion found themselves clinging to a 17-14 lead. A kill from Webber gave the ball back to Albion, who rattled off four more points. The Britons built their lead to 22-14 before taking set one, 25-21.

Albion jumped out to a commanding lead early on in the second set, eventually winning, 25-18

The Quakers held a 14-12 lead in the third set before Albion scored four straight to turn the two point deficit into a two point advantage. An ace from Jenna Schienke sent the Britons home victorious for the final point of the contest.

Libero Courtney Companion once again led the defense with 19 digs. Mariah Brenz totaled 36 assists in the win and 13 digs. Schienke added 11 as the final Brit with double digit digs.

Both Companion and Olivia Alexander had three service aces.

GAME TWO: Albion 3 Wheaton 0

A pair of 4-0 runs in the first set helped the Britons take the first by a large 25-14 margin. Wheaton, fresh off a sweep over Wilmington, could not stop the potent Albion offense early on.

Despite a closer second set, the Britons were able to once again pull ahead late. A back and forth set was ultimately ended by a kill from Kaylynne Nicholson, putting Albion one set away from sweeping the evening.

As the first match ended in an ace, so did the second – this time coming off the right hand of Brenz.

The Thunder had a tough time stopping Webber, as she attacked to a sparkling .692 clip – committing zero errors on 13 attempts. Her nine kills along with Alexander's nine were the most on the team.

Companion registered a team-high eight digs as Brenz finished with 24 assists.

A quick turnaround is in store for the Brits, as they will play at 10 a.m. Saturday against Illinois College. The second match for Albion will be a 4 p.m. face off against Baldwin Wallace.
