Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Even attack leads volleyball in season debut

Five Britons finished with six or more kills for the 3-1 victory.

GREENCASTLE, Ind. – With plenty of hype heading into the season, the Albion College volleyball team was as advertised in a 3-1 win over Concordia-Chicago. Fifth-year senior Chloe Webber registered 14 kills, seven blocks and attacked at a .480 clip.

The first set was all Albion, cruising to a 25-11 win in the opener. The Cougars attacked at a -.250 clip, and the Brits were able to take advantage. Albion finished the set with 12 kills compared to CUC's two.

A tight back and forth battle went in the Cougars' favor in the next set. CUC knotted the contest at one set apiece with a 27-25 victory.

Composing themselves between sets, Albion found its rhythm again with a dominant 25-14 win in the third set. A late four-point swing distanced the Britons by nine points, headlined by a pair of Webber kills within the run.

Jumping out to a 9-1 lead in the fourth set, Albion set the tempo early on to pick up their first win of the season.

Defensively, Jenna Schienke and Olivia Alexander led Albion with 13 apiece. Both juniors played six rotations for the Brits.

Junior setter Mariah Brenz dished out 32 assists and collected 12 digs in the win.

In her collegiate debut at libero, Courtney Companion added 10 digs.

The rest of the offense was fairly evenly distributed, with Schienke (7), Alexander (6), Kaylynne Nicholson (6) and Jesse Hepner (6) racking up most of the kills. Hepner also tallied six blocks.

On Saturday, the Brits will play two more matches before heading back to Michigan. At 12:30, Albion will take on Carthage before wrapping up the weekend against host DePauw, at 2:30.
