Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Hepner, Webber lead VB to sweeps

Senior middles Jesse Hepner and Chloe Webber were outstanding on Saturday.

GREENCASTLE, Ind. – It was a very, very good day to be a middle hitter on the Albion College volleyball team. Senior middles Jesse Hepner and Chloe Webber were beyond spectacular, leading the Britons to a pair of sweeps over Carthage and DePauw. Over the two matches, the pair combined for 35 kills.

GAME ONE: Albion 3 Carthage 0

Dominant from the start, the Britons handled the Firebirds by scores of 25-11, 25-19, 25-8. Carthage committed 26 errors, attacking at a -.010 clip.

Webber (nine kills) and Hepner (seven kills) were key parts of the Albion offense. Kaylynne Nicholson added eight kills. Setter Mariah Brenz continued to shine, finishing with 20 assists in the win.

With Madison McGraw back to serve, Albion used a 6-0 run to take a 12-2 lead in the first set. An ace off the hand of Jenna Schienke sealed the first set win for the Brits. In the middle set, Albion used another large run – this one an 8-0 span – to be in the driver's seat.

Defensively, Olivia Alexander led the way with 11 digs. Brenz and Courtney Companion totaled nine apiece.

GAME ONE: Albion 3 DePauw 0

In the second match, Webber (.563, 11 kills) and Hepner (.545, eight kills) led the way once again. Not only was their offense impressive, but the duo combined for seven blocks.

Companion led Albion with 12 digs. Brenz dished up 32 assists, while Alexander finished with nine digs and three service aces.

On Tuesday, the Britons travel to Manchester for a 6:30 p.m. match. It will be their last tune up before the rugged MIAA-NCAC Crossover next weekend.
