WBB stings Hornets for first win of 2023

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Ending a three-game losing slide, the Albion College women's basketball team put on a show, defeating Kalamazoo College 84-40. In the third quarter, the Brits limited the Hornets to two points, both coming with under a minute left in the period and from the foul line. 

Four players finished in double figures for the Britons, led by junior guard Lolo Reed's 13. In just 15 minutes, Daniah Beavers cashed in 12 points, as Cierra Cole and Audrey DeWaters finished with 10 apiece. Reed also had a season-best five steals and added six assists in the win. 

Albion led 18-8 after the opening quarter and kept pressuring the Hornets throughout the second quarter. By halftime, the Britons were able to pull ahead to a commanding 44-22 margin. 

In the third, Albion scored 25 straight points to build a significant advantage. From there, the visitors were able to keep their feet on the gas and cruise to a dominant, and much-needed, conference win. 

Snapping their losing streak, the Britons move to 10-4 overall, 5-1 in the MIAA.

Albion scored 25 points off 20 Kalamazoo turnovers. In the victory, the Britons committed just 10 turnovers. 

Bolstered by 13 offensive rebounds, Albion tacked on 14 second chance points. 

On Saturday, the hosts will welcome No. 4 Hope College for the first half of a men's-women's doubleheader. Tip off is scheduled for 3 p.m. with the men's game to follow.
