Men's wrestling goes perfect 4-0 in Cleveland

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland Rocks. What a phenomenal day for the Albion College men's wrestling team.

Competing at the Dr. Si Ostrach Duals, the Britons went 4-0 on the day, led by a three-pin performance by sophomore heavyweight, CJ Krum

Albion 34 Thiel 14

In the first match of the day, Cade Odrobina gritted out a tough 4-3 decision at 125. The freshman defeated a great opponent from Thiel, as he was perfect all afternoon. At 141, Aidan Bernard recorded a quick fall in just 54 seconds, giving the Brits a 9-6 lead.

Back to back tech falls by Peyton Brooks (18-2) and Thomas Potter (16-1) added 10 more points to the Albion lead. At 174, freshman Tanner Beach picked up a pin in 2:36 to secure the match for the Britons. Garrett Iobe earned an 8-2 victory at 197, before Krum finished it off with a pin in 2:13.

Albion 37 St. John Fisher 12

Going up against a well-coached first year program, Odrobina started off the match with a 7-5 victory. Bernard followed with an 11-2 major decision at 141. At 157, Brooks put together an incredible, gritty performance to gut out an 11-10 victory and cut into the Cardinal lead. Potter immediately turned the momentum to the Brits with a pin in 5:31 to put the team up for good.

Freshman Jack Smith went on to earn an 18-5 major decision at 174, as Owen McDaniel pinned his opponent in 4:57 in the 184 bout. Iobe remained perfect with a 17-2 tech fall to improve the Brits to 2-0 on the day.

Albion 29 Case Western Reserve 12

Another victory by Odrobina put the Britons ahead early, but the host Spartans scored the next 12 points. After the 149 bout, CWRU led 12-3.

Poised to erase the deficit, Brooks dominated his way to a 14-2 major decision to give Albion four points. Potter grinded out a tough 6-4 win at 165, setting Albion up for a great finish with a solid lineup to follow.

Beach recorded his second pin of the afternoon, this one coming in 4:16. Regionally ranked McDaniel followed with a 13-3 major decision before Iobe's third win – a 9-3 mark. Fellow regional ranked Krum ended the match with none other than a pin – this one in 2:31.

Albion 48 Waynesburg 10

A shorthanded Waynesburg team left only a few matches to be wrestled. The Britons made the most of the non-forfeited matches, as McDaniel pinned his opponent in 4:13. Krum ended the match with his third fall, coming in at 2:49.

On Thursday, Albion hosts its first men's dual since 1975 when they welcome Trine. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m.
