Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball handles Olivet in straight sets

Ja'Nyece Larry was phenomenal in the middle for Albion

ALBION – Ja'Nyece Larry's career night helped the Albion College volleyball team knock off The University of Olivet in straight sets, 3-0. The junior totaled a career-high 13 kills, swinging at a .440 mark on the night.

As a team, Albion hit at a .237 clip. Olivia Alexander added 13 kills in the win, along with nine digs and five service aces. Just days after Mariah Brenz hit the 100 career ace mark, Alexander did on Tuesday night.

Knotted at 16 in the first set, back to back kills from Kaylynne Nicholson helped the Brits take a slim lead. Larry went on to record a solo block and a kill, pushing Albion ahead by four. The teams would trade points for the remainder of the set, but freshman Reese Williams's kill gave the hosts a 25-20 win in the first set.

Olivet continued to battle throughout the match, as the teams were tied at 21 late in the second set. Larry and Brenz blocked a Comet attack, and it was followed by a UO attack error. Leading 23-21, a kill from Larry put Albion within set point. Following a Comet point, Alexander gave Albion the win, 25-22.

Trailing 14-10 in the third, Albion used a 6-0 run to grab the lead, highlighted by four straight aces off the hand of Alexander. After Olivet grabbed a 23-21 advantage, two Alexander kills and a pair of UO attack errors saw the Britons win their second conference game of the season.

The offense was ran by Brenz and Brinley McCaig, who finished with 25 and 14 assists, respectively. Brenz added nine digs, while Paige Williamson totaled 11. Jenna Schienke hit at a .571 clip, adding four kills.

The Brits improve to 13-9, 2-1 as the Comets fall to 10-10, 1-1.

Albion will head to Adrian on Saturday for a 1 p.m. match.
