Volleyball rallies to thrilling Senior Night win

ALBION – What a Senior Night to remember.

Honoring their six seniors post game, the Albion College volleyball team erased a 10-4 deficit in the fifth set to rally for a win over Wheaton College. After the game, the Brits recognized Mariah Brenz, Courtney Companion, Olivia Alexander, Jenna Schienke, Kaylynne Nicholson and Tori Balog

After the Thunder climbed out to a 10-4 advantage in the fifth, the momentum sat with the visitors. Freshmen Reese Williams and Carly Frank combined for the next three kills, wanting to send their seniors off properly. A service error gave the ball back to Wheaton before igniting an Albion run.

Brenz and Ja'Nyece Larry climbed the ladder for a block, coming after a Wheaton service error to cut the deficit to 11-9. Schienke then recorded an ace before a solo block from Larry tied the game at 11.

Another Wheaton point was answered by Larry before a kill from Alexander pushed Albion ahead. Wheaton would score the next point before the Brits answered, taking the game for good.

Brenz used a setter dump to put Albion within a point of victory. Serving sub Olivia Colletti did her job – and beyond – by finishing the night off with an ace. It was one of Albion's three aces in the match.

Alexander (17 kills) and Frank (11 kills) led the Albion offense. Both Brenz and Nicholson tacked on seven kills apiece in the win. Brenz dished out 38 assists while finishing the night with eight digs.

Defensively, Alexander paced the Brits with 16 digs as Schienke and Williamson each had 13. Larry totaled six blocks as Williams and Nicholson each added four.

Tomorrow, the Brits welcome nationally ranked Transylvania for a noon match.
