Vamos! Men's soccer heads to MIAA Semifinals

Box Score ALBION – Vamos!

Spanish native Alex Carre-Font buried a pair of penalty kicks as the No. 4 seeded Albion College men's soccer team knocked off No. 5 Kalamazoo College, 2-1. With the win, the Britons advance to face No. 1 Calvin on Wednesday.

In the 40th minute, Grady Lycan drew a foul in the box leading to the hosts being awarded a penalty kick. The senior punched the ball past the Kalamazoo keeper for his fourth goal of the season, giving Albion a 1-0 lead at the half.

Clinging to a one goal advantage in a chippy contest, the Brits found their way back on the scoreboard in the 68th minute. Xavier Yuille drew a foul and once again, Carre-Font took the PK. Carre-Font rifled the shot past the keeper, giving Albion a two goal lead.

Kalamazoo's goal came late in the game, but a strong Briton defense led by center back Riley Folk hung tough.

Dario Vujic made seven saves in the win, as Jake Ellsworth totaled one when he came in for a brief period due to injury.

The Hornets held the edge in shots (21-10) and corners (9-1). For the second consecutive season, the Britons eliminated Kalamazoo in the Quarterfinal round.

Albion will face Calvin in Grand Rapids on Wednesday. Game time is TBD.
