Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball sweeps its way to MIAA road win

ALMA, Mich. – Led by five blocks from Ja'Nyece Larry, the Albion College volleyball team swept Alma College on Tuesday evening. The junior missile added five kills and five digs in the Albion victory.

Olivia Alexander paced Albion with 12 kills and eight digs. Fellow outside Kaylynne Nicholson attacked at a .364 clip, recording nine kills, as Carly Frank finished with eight kills from the right side.

Defensively, Paige Williamson put together another great performance, racking up 17 digs and a pair of service aces. Mariah Brenz (24 assists) and Brinley McCaig (10 assists) ran the Albion offense, leading the Brits to their second MIAA win.

Early on, things looked bleak for the Britons, trailing 17-7 in the opening set. Enter: Albion men's soccer – fresh off their 4-1 win at Alma – bringing a gym full of momentum and cheers to the Brits. Bolstered by a 10-point run, Albion eventually won the first, 25-22. Following the set one win, the Alma gym resembled an Albion home game with the support in full swing of the visitors.

In the second, Albion settled in and jumped out to a lead as large as 19-9. The Scots clawed their way back to get within three points, but Larry assured the visitors a let down was not in sight. The junior finished with a kill and a solo block to help Albion win the second, 25-20.

Battling back and forth throughout the third, it was one more the Brits that broke through to pull away with the win. Knotted at 21, the Brits rallied to score the final four points, highlighted from an ace off the hand of Courtney Companion.

Albion heads to New England this weekend for the MIT Invitational. On Friday, the Brits will take on Illinois College at 6 p.m.
