Knight to Remember! VB defeats No. 9 Calvin

ALBION – This one's for the record books. 

A scrappy, determined effort led the Albion College volleyball team to a 3-1 win over No. 9 Calvin University. It is the first win over a Top-10 ranked opponent in program history, and Albion's first over the Knights since 2001. 

Albion has locked up the No. 2 seed in next week's MIAA Tournament – their highest finish in program history. The Britons have earned the first round bye and will advance to the Semifinal match next Friday at Hope. 

Electric from the jump, Albion finished with 14 aces in the match. Courtney Companion, Olivia Alexander and Paige Williamson each led the way with three. The hosts won the first two sets with scores of 25-21 before a veteran Calvin squad rallied to take the third. 

With the Knights leading 23-22 in the fourth, Ja'Nyece Larry placed a nice tip to tie the game at 23. Freshman Carly Frank followed with her seventh kill of the night, before an attack error on the visitors secured the Briton win. 

Alexander's 14 kills were a game-high, as Kaylynne Nicholson was stellar, adding 10 kills. Brenz and freshman Margaret Jones each recorded seven kills for Albion. 

Brenz led the offense with 38 assists, while adding 15 digs on defense. Williamson continued her memorable freshman campaign with 19 digs in the match. 

On Saturday, Albion wraps up the regular season with a 1 p.m. match against Saint Mary's. It will serve as the final home contest of the season.
