WBB erases late deficit, rallies to OT win

ANGOLA, Ind. – Call it a comeback.

Trailing by 12 points with 6:32 in regulation, the Albion College women's basketball team rallied back to claim a 64-58 overtime win over Muskingum University. In the overtime, Albion limited the Muskies to just two points.

The posts led the Albion offense, as Daniah Beavers led the way with 16 points, going a perfect 8 for 8 from the floor. Emma Cooke finished with 15 points and six rebounds. Senior Lolo Reed had a solid stat line, scoring 12 points, hauling in seven rebounds and dishing out eight assists.

Riley Davis grabbed 10 rebounds, while Ava Guilford added 10 points for the Brits.

Following a tight first quarter that saw Albion leading by four, the Muskies went on a second quarter run to hold a 29-24 lead at halftime. Throughout the third quarter, Muskingum built its lead to as many as 11, putting Albion in danger for its second consecutive loss.

With Muskingum holding a 49-37 advantage with over six and a half minutes to play, Davis ignited the Albion run by knocking down a jumper. Reed scored the next three points before a bucket by Beavers trimmed the Muskingum lead to five. Back to back Reed baskets were followed by a Beavers layup, vaulting Albion ahead for the first time since the first quarter.

A late Muskingum basket sent the game into overtime, where the Britons dominated the extra period. Holding a one point lead with over a minute to go, Brazil Watkins connected on a jumper to extend the lead to three. After a stop, the Muskies were forced to foul Davis – a tremendous shooter – who sank both free throws to secure the win.

The Brits improve to 3-1 overall on the young season.

On Tuesday, the long-awaited home opener is set for a 5 p.m. tipoff against Franklin.
