Watkins drops 22 in loss to No. 22 Hope

ALBION – It was a tough MIAA opener for the Albion College women's basketball team, dropping a 68-51 contest to No. 22 Hope College. Despite the loss, Brazyll Watkins scored a game-high 22 points. 

From the opening tip, Hope cruised out to a 10-2 lead. Albion settled in, as a three from DB Edwards helped the Brits get within one. After trading buckets and free throws, the two teams were tied at 13 after one. 

Hope took advantage of Albion miscues in the second quarter to build the lead to 32-23 at the half. Out of the break, the Flying Dutch went on a roll, inflating the lead to as much as 21 points before the period was over, putting the game out of reach. 

Getting production from its bench, the visitors outscored Albion 28-8 in points off the bench. 

Daniah Beavers had a game-high four blocks for the Britons. 

Hope finished the night connected on 10 of its 18 3-pointers. At the other end, Albion struggled, draining just three of its 12 threes. 

Senior Lolo Reed added nine points and six rebounds. 

On Saturday, the Brits head to No. 20 Trine University for a 3 p.m. tipoff.
