Davis nets 17 in loss in Puerto Rico

BAYAMON, Puerto Rico – A slow start cost the Albion College women's basketball team in its Puerto Rico Clasico opener. On Monday, the Brits were dropped 63-48 to Messiah University. 

Senior Riley Davis scored a season-high 17 points. Emma Cooke registered her second straight double-double, scoring 10 points and bringing down 10 rebounds. 

Through one quarter, Albion had just nine points. The Britons struggled offensively, connecting on only two field goals through the first 10 minutes. Tacking on just nine more points in the second quarter, the Brits were down 27-18 at halftime. 

As Albion slowly chipped away in the fourth quarter, an and-one from Messiah put the Falcons up by nine with roughly four minutes to play. 

In the loss, the Britons did not connect on a 3-pointer. 

Albion turned the ball over 18 times, leading to 16 Falcon points at the other end. Messiah also received 15 points from its bench, compared to just five from the Brits. 

Tomorrow, Albion wraps up their trip to Puerto Rico with a game against Union College. Tip off is set for 4 p.m. AST, 3 p.m. EST.
