Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Home Cooke-ing! WBB responds with thunderous win

Emma Cooke's 14 points and nine rebounds paced the Britons.

ALBION – That's how you get back on track.

Coming off back to back losses from a pair of ranked teams, the Albion College women's basketball team routed Kalamazoo College, 85-42. Five Britons finished in double figures while 10 of the 13 players who saw time scored.

Junior Emma Cooke came up just shy of a double-double, scoring 14 points and hauling in nine rebounds. She also blocked two shots and recorded three steals. Albion was led by Brazyll Watkins's 15 points, as DB Edwards chipped in with 13 off the bench to go alongside five boards.

Lolo Reed added 12 points for the hosts on a 6 of 10 shooting night. Riley Davis was the fifth Albion player to score in double figures, with 10 points, four assists and a pair of blocks.

From the jump the game was controlled by Albion, breaking out to a 12 point lead just six minutes into the contest. The Britons received back to back 3-pointers from Davis, taking an 18-6 lead and never looking back.

By halftime, the hosts inflated the lead to 31 points and continued to keep the pressure on the Hornets. Albion turned the ball over just nine times in the game, but forced Kalamazoo to commit 24. The 24 Hornet turnovers in turn led to 27 Briton points.

Sophomore Ava Guilford dished out a game-high five assists and scored eight points. Tricia Sankiewicz contributed eight points off the bench, including a perfect 2 of 2 mark from beyond the arc.

Bringing down 18 offensive boards, the Brits scored 27 second chance points. Cooke and Edwards each grabbed four rebounds on the offensive glass.

Collectively, the Britons shot nearly 48 percent from the floor and 41 percent from three. With Cooke and Watkins dominating inside, Albion scored 46 points in the paint compared to Kalamazoo's 26.

On Saturday, Albion heads to Alma to continue MIAA action. Tip off against the Scots is scheduled for 3 p.m.
