WBB stumbles in MIAA Semifinals

HOLLAND, Mich. – Heartbreaking.

Despite being by far the better team, things didn't fall in favor of the Albion College women's basketball team. On Friday night, the team came up short, 58-53 to Hope College in the MIAA Semifinals.

It was a back and forth battle from the tip, as neither team could build a lead by larger than single digits. Everytime one team hit a big shot or came away with a stop, so did the opposition.

Lolo Reed led the Britons with 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Junior Daniah Beavers finished off the season with yet another double-double, scoring 15 points and bringing down 10 boards in limited minutes.

In the fourth quarter, Hope began to pull away, getting to the foul line and extending the lead to 10.

Albion connected on just 20 percent of its 3-pointers in the game.

Albion was whistled for 21 fouls compared to Hope's 14. The Britons shot just 11 free throws in the game, as Hope was awarded 23.

The loss ends the careers of eight players that have been instrumental to the program – Cierra Cole, Elena Welker, Becca Ross, Audrey DeWaters, Nicole Sweetland, Angelina Mendieta, Romee Natschke and Olivia Dameron

The season comes to a close with an 18-10 overall record.
