Brenz, Alexander named All-Tournament Team

Volleyball rolls to 4-0 after a pair of wins in Ohio

ALLIANCE, Ohio – Receiving votes in the AVCA Preseason Poll, the Albion College volleyball team left no doubt of their talents, picking up another sweep on Saturday afternoon. Albion took care of Buffalo State in straight sets before battling to a 3-1 win over John Carroll.

Following the tournament, seniors Olivia Alexander and Mariah Brenz were named to the All-Tournament Team for their incredible performances over the weekend.

GAME ONE: Albion 3 Buffalo State 0

Backed by a dazzling performance from Alexander, the Britons made quick work of the Bengals. The senior outside slammed 14 kills, attacking at a .448 clip, while picking up 11 digs in the match.

Leading 19-9 in the first, Albion went on a late run to completely control the first set. After taking the opener 25-10, the Britons scored eight straight midway through the second to win the middle set, 25-16. Despite a tighter 25-18 victory in the third, Albion was still in total control offensively against the Bengals.

Buffalo State struggled, hitting at a -.089 mark.

Brenz registered 21 assists in the win. As a team, Albion ended with nine service aces, as Paige Williamson and Courtney Companion each had a pair.

GAME TWO: Albion 3 John Carroll 1

After a solid first game, Alexander went on to have a career-high 21 kills against the Blue Streaks. Classmate and roommate Jenna Schienke led the defense with 18 digs in the win. Freshman Carly Frank continued to build confidence on the right side, racking up 14 kills for the Brits. Frank was masterful on the attack with a .565 hitting percentage.

The Britons dominated the first set, 25-14, but battled their way through the next three.

In addition to Schienke's 18 digs, four other players racked up double digit digs. Companion (13), Alexander (12), Brenz (11) and Williamson (11) were all solid in the back row in the match.

Senior middle Ja'Nyece Larry had six blocks, while Brenz finished with five. Brenz dished out 43 assists in the win.

The Brits improve to 4-0 this season for the second consecutive year.
