Women's basketball earns resounding win over Saint' Mary's

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Responding after a tough loss a week ago, the Albion College women's basketball team dominated Saint Mary's College in a 68-42 win on Wednesday. Three Albion players finished in double figures, improving the Brits to 10-7 overall.

Junior Brazyll Watkins led all scorers with 19 points while bringing down nine rebounds. Riley Davis's impressive senior campaign continued with 14 points, while Emma Cooke added 12. Lolo Reed registered a career-high 12 rebounds in the win.

After a tight first quarter, the Brits ended the period on a 6-0 run. Four points from Davis coupled with a basket by Cooke helped Albion take a 19-11 lead after one. The Belles continued to hang with Albion throughout the second quarter, seeing the visitors take a 34-25 lead into halftime.

Saint Mary's knocked down the first two points of the half before the Britons scored six straight. Albion constantly pressured the Belles and maintained a double digit lead for the remainder of the contest. Four points from Watkins and a triple off the hand of Davis secured a 20 point advantage early in the fourth with no looking back for the Brits.

Albion outscored the Belles in the paint, 40-18.

Led by Reed, Albion was stellar on the glass, outrebounding the Belles 60-33. DB Edwards grabbed nine rebounds, as both Watkins and Daniah Beavers finished with eight.

On Saturday, the Brits welcome Trine University, who was receiving votes in the latest D3hoops.com poll. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
