Whitfield named All-Tournament Team in IWU finale

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Wrapping up non-conference action, the Albion College volleyball team split on Saturday afternoon. The Britons knocked off Simpson College 3-1 before dropping a 3-1 decision to host Illinois Wesleyan. 

Following the conclusion of the tournament, freshman Bri Whitfield was named to the All-Tournament Team. 

GAME ONE: Albion 3 Simpson 1

Freshman Kayda Herrick's 17 kills paced the Albion offense in the victory. Herrick hit at a .313 mark, adding three total blocks in the win. Whitfield added 12 and Margaret Jones finished with 10. Jones turned in a .444 attacking percentage along with five total blocks. 

One day after her 1,000th career dig, Paige Williamson led all players with 29 digs. Ava Wilcox added 14, while setters Molly Edmunds and Joelle Boeskool had double-doubles in the win. Edmunds totaled 17 assists and 13 digs, as Boeskool added 19 assists and 10 digs. 

Albion attacked at a .277 clip, limiting Simpson to a .118 mark. 

GAME TWO: Illinois Wesleyan 3 Albion 1

IWU dominated on the block to take a four-set victory over the Brits. Whitfield was phenomenal in the contest, finishing with 13 kills and swinging at a .440 mark. Boeskool (18) and Edmunds (13) dished out the Albion offense. Three Britons finished with 12 or more digs, led by Williamson's 14.

Boeskool ended with 13 digs and Wilcox tallied 12. Wilcox also contributed a career-high nine kills. 

Albion will have just about a week before their next game  – a 6:30 p.m. match at Calvin University on Friday.
