Brooks leads men's wrestling in first home match

ALBION – Up against a tough opponent, the Albion College men's wrestling team won seven individual bouts en route to a 25-14 victory over Wabash College. 

Opening the match at 125, Josh Mars held tough after an early takedown, picking up a 3-1 win for his first win of the season. 

Wabash claimed points in the next bout, but junior Austin Matheney righted the ship at 141. Matheney, currently ranked fifth in the region, picked up a 10-6 win. Following Matheney, Max Honiss earned Albion's lone fall of the match. The 15th nationally ranked Honiss pinned his opponent in 4:01. 

At 165, Peyton Brooks defeated the No. 8 wrestler in the nation in decisive fashion. Brooks picked up a 13-3 major decision to help Albion lead 16-9 with four bouts to go. 

The Britons went on to win at 174, as freshman Zak Knapp improved to 2-0 with a gritty 5-4 win, as Owen McDaniel followed with a 5-4 win at 184. McDaniel, ranked fifth in the region, remained unbeaten on the season. 

Ending the dual was senior CJ Krum, picking up a 4-2 win in the heavyweight matchup. 

Albion will be back in action on Nov. 17 when they host the Albion Invitational.
