Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Brits battle with No. 20 / RV Trine

ALBION – Battling for most of the contest, the Albion College women's basketball team was unable to keep pace with Trine University, dropping a 70-54 contest. The Thunder is ranked 20th in the latest WBCA poll and is receiving votes in the D3hoops.com poll.

Junior Ava Guilford's 14 points led Albion, while also tacking on three assists. Coming off the bench, freshman DJ Pannell scored 12 points, connecting on four of her seven 3-pointers.

The Britons battled throughout the first half, as a late three by Pannell saw Albion trailing 17-11 after the opening quarter. In the waning seconds of the first half, Brooklyn Tornes sank a bucket to see Trine holding a 37-26 lead at the break. Tornes finished with seven points and dive boards, dishing out three assists.

Late in the third and extending into the fourth quarter, Trine was able to use a run to its advantage and keep a large lead over the hosts. Albion received some late baskets, thanks to Guilford and Khaleeya Cook. Cook led the Brits with four assists.

Trine corralled nine offensive rebounds, leading to 12 second chance points. Albion managed just two second chance points. The Thunder also held the edge in the paint, with 46 total points compared to 26 by Albion.

On the glass, Meghan Trewhella led the Brits with eight total rebounds.

With a week off for final exams, Albion returns to MIAA action next Saturday at Kalamazoo College. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
