Reed's 17 lifts women's hoops over Calvin

ALBION – On National Girls and Women in Sports Day, the Albion College women's basketball team displayed nothing but excellence in a 67-41 win over Calvin University. Albion limited the Knights to just four points in the second quarter en route to the victory. 

Lolo Reed was stellar, scoring a game-high 17 points on an 8 of 13 shooting effort. The senior guard grabbed six rebounds, had two assists and recorded a pair of steals. 

Brazil Watkins added 14 points and six rebounds for Albion, shooting an efficient 5 of 7 from the floor. Daniah Beavers and DB Edwards each added nine points off the bench, with Beavers collecting nine rebounds. 

From the tip, Albion's defense put pressure on Calvin, forcing the Knights to force shots late in the shot clock. After one period, the Brits held a 17-11 edge before an explosive second quarter gave them a sizable lead at the half. 

Outscoring the visitors 15-4 in the second would be plenty for the Britons to pull away. Despite Calvin making a slight run early in the third, a corner three from Payton Baker silenced the Calvin momentum and swung it right back to the Brits. 

Riley Davis led all players with four assists. With Reed leading the charge, Albion scored 42 points in the paint compared to 24 from Calvin. 

On Saturday, Albion will host Adrian College for a 3 p.m. tip. It will be senior day for Davis, Reed, Edwards and Beavers, celebrated before the game.
