Three titles highlight track and field MIAAs Day 1

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Three titles in field events highlight the Albion College outdoor track and field team's Day 1 performance at the MIAA Championships.

With six events scored, the men are in second with 46 points and the women sit fourth with 23.

Derrelle Murray and Eddie Hines went 1-2 in the shot put, giving the men's team 18 points. Murray won the event with a toss of 15.83m, while Hines followed with a throw of 15.53m. They were the only two to throw over 15m. Later in the day, Hines (47.93m) placed second in the hammer throw as Murray (44.75m) was sixth.

After winning Field MVP honors for the indoor season, Tess Anthony won the hammer throw with a throw of 45.00m. Ashley Booth was ninth for Albion, throwing a 37.44. Anthony later threw a season-best mark of 11.89 to place third in the shot put.

Omar Gordon Jr. – the 2023 MIAA Field MVP – won the long jump with a mark of 6.75m. Junior Henry Wehrly picked up points in the event, placing fifth with a leap of 6.55m.

Junior distance runners Fatima Cruz and Olivia DeGraaf earned points in the 10,000 meter run, taking sixth and seventh. Cruz ran a 41:45.29 and DeGraaf finished with a time of 42:04.11.

Brayden Stavros took sixth in the pole vault, clearing 3.95m.

With a jump of 4.72m, DB Edwards was seventh in the women's long jump.
