Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

VB tested in pair of five set matches

ALLIANCE, OHIO – The Albion College volleyball team split a pair of hard-fought, five set matches on Saturday to close out the weekend at Mount Union. Albion rallied to defeat Carnegie Mellon before slipping to Rochester.

GAME ONE: Albion 3 Carnegie Mellon 2

Multiple career-highs helped the Britons rally in a well-tested battle against the Tartans, led by 30 digs from Paige WIlliamson. After dropping the first set, Albion responded by winning sets two and three (25-23, 25-18). CMU took the fourth set to force a decisive fifth set, but a 4-0 run by the Brits late in the final set helped secure the win.

Sophomore Carly Frank led the Brits with 16 kills, while classmate Alexis Ames finished with a career-best 13 kills to go along with 11 digs. Reese Williams and Margaret Jones were sparkling from the middle, combining for 18 kills as Williams swung at a .412 clip.

Brinley McCaig and Joelle Boeskool ran the Albion offense. McCaig finished with 26 assists and Boeskool ended with 21. Olivia Colletti was solid defensively, contributing a career-high 12 digs and five service aces. Her serving was key to the win – especially in the third set.

GAME TWO: Rochester 3 Albion 2

With both teams struggling to score, the Britons suffered a tough loss in the final contest of the weekend. Frank's nine kills paced Albion, while Williams was next with seven. Williams finished with a career-best five solo blocks in the loss.

Coming off a career-high, Williamson had another stellar performance with 28 digs. Ames (13) and McCaig (12) were the other two Brits to collect double-digit digs. McCaig added 20 assists as well, as Boeskool totaled 10.

Following the conclusion of the weekend, Williamson was named to the All-Tournament Team.

On Friday, Albion will play Ohio Wesleyan in the first of three games at the MIAA-NCAC Crossover, hosted by Calvin University.
