Women's basketball battles in loss to Hope

ALBION – Despite a valiant effort and a halftime lead, the Albion College women's basketball team fell in a tremendous fight to Hope College, 72-61. The Flying Dutch outscored Albion 37-20 in the second half to steal the upset bid from the Britons. 

Senior Emma Cooke was wonderful in the post. Cooke had 19 points and 11 rebounds, including a 7 for 8 mark from the charity stripe. Freshman Khaleeya Cook added 11 points off the bench. 

Albion took a 17-12 lead into the end of the first quarter, but an experienced Hope squad battled back in the second period. Meghan Trewhella buried a 3-pointer in the waning seconds of the first half to give the Britons a 41-35 lead at the break. 

Hope stormed back in the third quarter as Albion could not find an answer for the 3-point shooting from the Dutch. 

On Saturday, the Britons will play at Alma College in a 3 p.m. start.
