Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Cooke's career day starts 2025 with win

Emma Cooke scored 17 points and brought down 18 rebounds in a conference win.

ALBION – Emma Cooke has entered the chat.

Limited to just two points through three quarters, the senior exploded for 15 fourth quarter points, helping the Albion College women's basketball team to a big 66-57 win over Alma College. Cooke led Albion with 17 points and grabbed a career-high 18 rebounds in the conference victory.

Albion shutout the Scots over the final four minutes, outscoring Alma 13-0 to end the game.

Cooke finished a perfect 7 of 7 from the free throw line and added two block shots to her stat line. The senior played all 40 minutes for the Britons.

Tied after one quarter, Albion's 3-point shooting picked up in the second quarter, knocking down four. DJ Pannell, Sydney Schoenborn and Anja Kelley all buried triples in the period, helping to build a 30-23 lead at the half.

Out of the half, the Scots reset and were able to tie the score going into the final period.

Alma hit a 3-pointer to give the visitors a 55-54 advantage with just over four minutes on the clock. That bucket ignited a spark into the Brits, starting with a layup as the shot clock expired from Guilford. A defensive stop resulted in Cooke grabbing the rebound and getting fouled, knocking down two free throws for a three point lead.

Another defensive stop and a Cooke board saw the senior get a basket at the other end, securing a five point cushion with 58 seconds to play.

Sophomore Meghan Trewhella scored 11 points, while Brooklynn Tornes and Pannell each added 10. Guilford dished out a game-high five assists.

The Britons have improved to 2-2 in the MIAA with the win.

On Wednesday, the Brits continue conference play with a 7:30 p.m. game at Olivet.
