Women's hoops victorious at Olivet

OLIVET, Mich. – Surviving late looks from the Comets, the Albion College women's basketball team picked up a 55-53 win at The University of Olivet on Wednesday. Winners of two straight, the Britons improve to 3-2 in the MIAA. 

The visitors were led by sophomore Meghan Trewhella's 15 points – all coming in the second half. Ava Guilford and Emma Cooke each added 10 points as well. 

With neither team able to gain momentum in the first half, the teams went into halftime locked at 22. In the third, Olivet closed out the period on a 5-0 run, holding a two point edge heading into the final 10 minutes. 

Olivet's run extended into the fourth quarter, knocking down a three to lead 45-38 with 7:34 to play. Freshman Khaleeya Cook answered at the other end with a much-needed three of her own to end the drought. Cook ended with nine points off the bench. 

With 4:14 remaining, Guilford buried a 3-pointer to vault the Britons ahead for good at 49-47. Crucial late buckets by Cook and Trewhella helped Albion seal the road victory. 

Cook and Anja Kelly were remarkable defensively. Cook had a career-high four steals, while Kelly finished with three and disrupted many Comet plays. 

Albion hosts Adrian College for a 3 p.m. contest on Saturday.
