Britons Bounce Back With Win Over Knox in Hawaii

HONOLULU, Hawaii -- After falling in back-to-back contests, the Albion College women's basketball got back to its winning ways on Sunday afternoon at the Hoops in Hawaii Classic, as the Britons dispatched Knox College, 83-69.

The Britons picked up their eighth win of the season via a concerted defensive effort. Albion forced Knox into 19 turnovers, which translated into 20 points for the Brits. At the same time, Albion chased the Prairie Fire off the three-point arc throughout the contest, as it held Knox to a dismal 15.4% (2-for-13) mark from deep. On the opposite end of the court, the Brits shot a solid 45% (27-for-60) from the floor.

A strong opening quarter set the tone, as Albion never trailed in the tilt and led for 39:31 of the contest. With the score at 11-8 midway through the first quarter, the Britons found their groove inside of the Shark Tank and rattled off 10 unanswered points to seize a commanding 21-8 lead as the quarter wound down. Meghan Trewhella started the barrage with a fast break make and was followed by freshman Alexis Trine, who scored down low to make it 15-8. Deziray Skirka and Khaleeya Cook capped the run with back-to-back trey's to put Albion ahead for good, as the Prairie Fire never got closer than nine points the rest of the way.

Albion featured a balanced offense against Knox, as four Brits finished in double figures. Trewhella paced the pack with 23 points, which marked the fifth time this season the junior has scored more than 20 points. Ava Guilford added 15 points, five rebounds, and a team-best five assists. Guilford breezed her way to the charity stripe all game, as the senior drew 10 fouls, which turned into 12 points at the line.

Cook and Trine rounded out Albion's double-digit scorers with 13 and 10 points, respectively. Anna Honnen finished just shy of double figures with nine points and a team-high seven boards.
