Women's basketball gets crucial conference win

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Albion College women's basketball team earned a much-needed road victory on Saturday, defeating Adrian College 70-65. Emma Cooke was dominant inside, scoring a career-best 24 points and bringing down seven rebounds. 

Ava Guilford played all 40 minutes, scoring 13 points q and dishing out seven assists. The junior was a perfect 6 of 6 from the free throw line – including two that iced the game late. Sophomore Meghan Trewhella added 12 points for the visitors. 

Albion held the lead for the first quarter before the Bulldogs stormed back. Adrian used a powerful second quarter to take a slim 39-38 lead into halftime. In the third, the Brits held Adrian to single digits to regain the lead. With six minutes to go in the quarter, a bucket from Cooke sparked a 9-0 run, seeing Albion take a 56-47 advantage into the fourth. 

Despite the Bulldogs chipping away at Albion's lead in the fourth, the Britons held tough to earn a crucial conference win. Guilford sank two free throws with 16 seconds to play for a five point Albion cushion.

As a team, Albion shot 77 percent from the foul line. 

The Britons will wrap up the regular season on Wednesday at Saint Mary's. With two more conference games for the rest of the league, Albion will wait until the conclusion of next Saturday's games to find where they sit in the playoff picture.
