Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Cooke lifts women's hoops at Saint Mary's

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Emma Cooke's late and-one helped the Albion College women's basketball team defeat Saint Mary's College 69-65 in the regular season finale. Cooke led the Britons with 17 points, putting Albion in a terrific position to host a first round playoff game next week.

In addition to her 17 points, the senior hauled in seven rebounds. Meghan Trewhella contributed 16 points, as Payton Baker added 13. Junior Ava Guilford scored 12 points and dished out six assists in the win.

The Britons took a 34-26 lead into halftime, but the hosts stormed back in the second half. Slowly chipping away at Albion's lead, the Brits remained composed down the stretch to keep the Belles at bay.

Clinging to a one point advantage, Cooke sank a bucket and got fouled, giving the Britons a 66-62 lead. Down the stretch, Trewhella buried three free throws to help secure the road victory.

Albion has the conference bye Saturday, and the official MIAA Tournament bracket will be announced on Sunday.
