ALBION — An electric environment from the Kresge Krazies and a classic double double from
Emma Cooke helped the Albion College women's basketball team knock off Alma College, 69-52 in the first round of the MIAA Tournament.
In her Kresge finale, Cooke led all players with 22 points and brought down 11 rebounds.
Meghan Trewhella added 13 points as
Ava Guilford poured in 12 to go along with three steals.
A tight first half saw Albion take a 31-30 lead into the locker room. Throughout the third quarter, the Britons slowly built their lead, keeping Alma at a two possession distance. Heading into the fourth, the hosts had a seven point advantage.
With their lead inflating, Guilford buried the dagger — a 3-pointer with just under six minutes remaining to push Albion up by 15.
Both Guilford and
Anyieth Nhial recorded two blocks apiece. As a team, Albion shot 51 percent from the field.
The Brits advance to the MIAA Semifinals on Friday at Trine. Tip off is set for 5:30.
