Women's basketball wins on Senior Day

ALBION – On Senior Day, the Albion College women's basketball team picked up a much-needed win, 67-61 over The University of Olivet. Ava Guilford flirted with a triple-double, scoring 16 points while bringing down nine rebounds and dishing out eight assists.

Emma Cooke scored 15 points, while Meghan Trewhella tacked on 14 and grabbed seven boards.

Prior to the contest, the Brits celebrated its senior class of Cooke, Anja Kelley and Avery Roundtree

After the first half, the Britons held a slim 33-30 lead over the Comets. In a highly contested game, Albion held the lead for a majority of the time, but could not shake away from Olivet.

In the fourth quarter, Olivet regained the lead, 54-53 with 3:08 on the clock. On the ensuing possession, Guilford answered with a trey of her own off a kickout from Cooke, pushing the Britons back in front. That would not be the only clutch 3-pointer from Albion.

With Albion holding a four point lead, Olivet drilled a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to one. Freshman Khaleeya Cook buried a three from the top of the arc with 38 seconds remaining for a four point lead. At the other end, Payton Baker got a steal and was fouled, sinking a pair of free throws to ice the game. Baker ended with 10 points coming off the bench.

Next Wednesday, Albion heads to Calvin for a 7:30 p.m. game.
