ALBION, Mich. – For the first time in about a month, the Albion volleyball team played a home match.
They played like they never left, sweeping Capital, 3-0 (25-13, 25-15 25-14), in their final non-conference home tilt of the regular season.
With an energetic Kresge Gymnasium crowd behind them on Senior Night, the Britons rallied from a 3-0 deficit to begin the first set only to score six straight points and never look back, besting Capital 25-13.
Albion built a 13-6 advantage before a Comet timeout. From there, the Britons stretched their lead to 10 and put the exclamation point on the set with a
Margaret Jones kill.
It was more of the same domination in the second set, as the Britons rolled to a 25-15 win in the stanza.
While there were four lead changes and five ties in the set's first 11 points, Albion took control and rattled off the next four scores and kept the foot on the gas.
The closest the match got after was 13-10 in favor of the Britons, but they scored 12 of the final 17 to take the set.
Albion shut the door in the third set, capturing a 25-14 advantage.
The Britons never trailed in the stanza, and
Kayda Herrick put the icing on the cake with a kill to end it.
Herrick and Jones shared the match-high with 11 kills, while
Molly Edmunds posted 30 assists. Herrick also tacked on six aces.
The Comets hit at a -.012% clip, which was the second-lowest total of any opponent the Britons have faced this season.
Before the match,
Aliyah Vesper and student managers
Heidi Faramelli and
Annika Lindstrom were honored on Senior Night.
