FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. -- After guiding the Albion College Men's Basketball team to a pair of wins at the Smokey Ballenger Invitational at Otterbein University, Kameron Mayes was named Athlete of the Week by the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA).
The senior from Pontiac, Michigan, earned the weekly honor from the MIAA for the first time in his career after a pair of stellar performances as the Britons earned victories over Westminster College and Allegheny College. Mayes averaged 20 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game across the two wins. As a result, Mayes was also took home All-Tournament honors.
Mayes posted 19 points on a tidy 70% (7-for-10) mark from the floor in an 83-63 win over Westminster. He followed that performance up with a 21-point, 11-rebound double-double in a 66-60 victory over the Gators of Allegheny. He added a season-best five assists to round out the performance against Allegheny.
On the season, Mayes leads the Brits and ranks fourth in the MIAA with 14.9 points per game. On the glass, the senior is fifth in the conference with a team-best mark of 7.7 rebounds per game.
Mayes and the Britons return to action on Wednesday, January 7, when they resume MIAA play with a 7 pm road tilt against the University of Olivet.
