Softball Opens Myrtle Beach Trip With Victory Over Spartanburg Methodist

Lilly Zaskowski pitched seven strong innings and gave up one run in the Britons' season-opening victory over Spartanburg Methodist.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LITTLE RIVER, S.C. — The Albion softball team opened its 2026 season with a 5-1 win against Spartanburg Methodist. In a later game against Martin Luther, the game was delayed and later postponed later in the week due to lightning. The Britons had a 7-2 advantage in the game before the delay.

Game 1 vs. Spartanburg Methodist

It was a slow start for both teams in the first inning. However, the Britons found their bats in the second inning putting three up on the score board. Junior Lilly Zaskowski pitched all seven innings, earning seven strikeouts and only letting up one run.

The Britons held Spartanburg scoreless until the sixth inning when they put up one run to make the score 4-1. In the bottom of the sixth, Cameron McDonald hit a double to get into scoring position. With McDonald on base and eager to score, Emma Schramm hit a sacrifice RBI to knock McDonald in making it 5-1.

Spartanburg Methodist could not capitalize in the seventh inning, giving the Britons their first win of the season.

Game 2 vs. Martin Luther

Albion got off to a quick start in game two, putting up one run in the first inning. Freshman Elaina Braunscheidel came ready to play in her first at bat of the game where she reached first base on a walk, stole second, and came around to score following two passed balls.

McDonald started off the fourth inning with a hit getting on base and Schramm knocking her in with an RBI single to put the Britons up 2-0. The Knights manufactured two runs in the bottom of the fourth after feeling pressure from the Britons, making the score 2-2.

The momentum for the Britons fell in their favor in the top of the seventh inning where they put up five runs. Allie Trantham started the trend by hitting a single to right field. Kayla Cole followed Trantham by hitting a single to left field. Trantham knocked in a score on a pass ball and then Ryley Frank hit a single RBI to put up another run. Jessie Anstandig, McDonald, and Kaitlyn Ruselink also strung together singles to move runners.

After two outs in the top of the seventh, the game was put in a lightning delay.
