FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. — Cooper Bright has now earned MIAA Track Athlete of the Week honors in back-to-back weeks.
The senior had a tremendous performance at a competitive GINA Relays at Hillsdale, breaking DaMario Chapman's program record in the 100m with a mark of 10.49 that placed Bright third.
He also won the 200m in a time of 21.80 and competed on both the 4x100m and 4x400m relay squads.
Bright's 10.49 time in the 100m is first in the MIAA (by a wide 0.17 seconds), fourth in the Great Lakes Region and tied for 23rd in all of Division III (top 22 in each event qualify for the NCAA Championships). His best 200m mark of 21.50 set at Spring Arbor's Cougar Classic the week prior is best in the MIAA and fourth in the Great Lakes Region.
Bright and the Britons will compete at the MIAA Outdoor Championships hosted by Hope from April 30-May 1. With Bright potentially going into the meet with the conference's best 100m and 200m marks, he is looking to become the seventh Albion runner to win both events at the conference championships in the same season and first since Justin Meredith in 2014.
