Box Score ELMHURST, Ill. – Elmhurst College capitalized on Albion College's turnovers to score a 75-56 victory over the Britons in non-league men's basketball action at R.A. Faganel Hall Wednesday night.
The host Bluejays turned 16 Albion turnovers into 20 points, and they also collected 13 points off offensive rebounds.
Albion started well, scoring the first five points of the contest. Kolin Kazen (Holland/Saugatuck) scored a layup on the first possession of the night and Mike Smith (Detroit/Crockett) added an old-fashioned three-point play. The margin stayed at five as Smith knocked down a jumper to make the score 7-2.
Elmhurst ripped off a 13-4 run to build a 26-18 lead with 4 ½ minutes left in the first half. Jerome Robinson, who led the Bluejays with 16 points, gave the rally life with a pair of baskets, and Justin Phipps added two baskets of his own. Elmhurst went on to hold a 36-25 lead at halftime.
Albion got as close as nine in the second half as Kazen hit a "three" to make the score 45-36. Kazen collected 16 points to become the only Briton to score in double figures.
Albion, 4-5 overall, will take a break to enjoy the holidays with friends and family. The Britons will return to campus Dec. 26 to prepare for Dec. 28-29 games in the Smokey Ballenger Tournament at Westerville, Ohio.
