Box Score OLIVET, Mich. – Albion College won its ninth game in a row Saturday, but it wasn't easy. Nicole Dennis (St. Clair Shores/Lakeview) and Patty Rewa (Greenville) scored baskets in the paint on consecutive possessions with less than six minutes left to break a 54-54 tie and the Britons went on to score a 65-62 victory over Olivet College.
Albion, 10-5 overall and 5-2 against Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rivals, holds sole possession of third place in the league standings. The Britons are two games ahead of Trine University and Saint Mary's College, the teams tied for fourth.
Olivet led by five on three occasions in the first 12 minutes of the contest. Rewa and Chelsea Miller (Jackson/Napoleon) scored layups on back-to-back possessions and Taylor Nugent (Honor/Benzie Central) buried a 3-point basket as Albion surged to a 17-15 lead with six minutes left in the first half.
Albion went on to lead 27-24 at halftime and it extended the margin to five on Brett de Bear's (Plymouth/Salem) on the opening possession of the second half. The Britons also led by five when Lisa Davignon (Troy/Avondale) knocked down a 3-point shot to make the score 45-40 with 10:53 to play.
Albion never extended the margin past five, however, as the game featured 16 lead changes and the score was tied 11 times.
Rewa was limited to just six shots, but she was efficient by making five to score a team-high 13 points. Tanner Johnson (Charlotte), who was 5-of-6 from the line, added 11, and de Bear finished with 10.
Olivet's Brittany Brown led all players with 14 points.
