Box Score ALBION, Mich. – Albion College shot 33 percent from the field on its home court Saturday, but it survived a scare from Adrian College because it performed well on the defensive end. Albion held Adrian scoreless for the final 4:46 to earn a 51-42 victory over its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival.
Katie Ross' 3-point basket trimmed the Albion lead to 43-42, but that would be the last time Adrian would score. Patty Rewa (Greenville) scored her only two baskets of the day down the stretch and Nicole Dennis (St. Clair Shores/Lakeview) tacked on four of her 15 points with a layup and a pair of free throws.
Adrian led 24-23 at halftime and Jenn Headley scored the first two baskets of the second half as the margin grew to five. Adrian led by as many as six in the second half.
Taylor Nugent (Honor/Benzie Central) hit a 3-point basket and Dennis produced an old-fashioned three-point play as Albion erased a 37-31 deficit. Nugent, who produced eight points off the bench, sank a pair of free throws to put Albion on top, 39-37, with nine minutes to play.
Lauren Epple (Williamston) was Albion's top scorer in the frontcourt, scoring nine points on 4-of-10 shooting from the floor.
Albion, 13-6 overall and 8-3 against its MIAA rivals, will play at home again at 6 p.m. Wednesday when it challenges Saint Mary's College.
