Box Score ALMA, Mich. – Albion College moved into a tie for fourth place in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association as it survived a late Alma College rally and escaped Art Smith Arena with a 64-62 victory.
Albion erased a 35-33 halftime deficit as Kolin Kazen (Holland/Saugatuck) produced two baskets and Carter Elliott (Franklin/Detroit Country Day) tacked on a layup. Albion continued to play tough defense and it extended the margin to 48-39 on Adam Zavadil's fast break bucket.
Albion maintained a nine-point cushion with 4:15 to play as Zach Hurth (Lansing/Lansing Catholic Central) finished a layup. The Briton offense wilted under Alma's pressure defense and the only point Albion would get from that point was a Luke Walker (Cedar Springs) free throw.
Alma missed two shots, including a 3-point shot from 60 feet away, in the final minute of the contest.
Kazen finished with his fifth double-double of the season and Lawrence Ridgell (River Rouge/Inkster) added 11 points.
