Glenn, Novak Lead Women's Lacrosse Past Olivet

Box Score

ALBION, Mich. – The Albion College women's lacrosse program broke its record for most victories in a season Saturday when it defeated Olivet College, 22-9.  It was the sixth win for the Britons, whose previous high for wins in a season was five set during the 2013 campaign.

Mackenzie Novak isn't known as a goal scorer, but she scored six and added five assists. Ashley Glenn, Albion's leading goal scorer, tacked on six goals to move her season total to 50.

"Mackenzie was more of a threat than usual," Albion Coach Shanta Loecker said. "She was more confident with the ball.

"Mackenzie and Ashley provided great leadership on the field," Loecker added. "They did their jobs but also held the team accountable for always learning and working to get better. Plus they both had fantastic chemistry on offense and really grounded our attack."

Kadie Koolwick controlled the midfield, and Loecker thought the three turnovers she caused were just as important as the four goals she scored.

"We've been spending a lot of time on playing defense clean and playing more with our feet instead of our sticks," Loecker said. "We did a good job of hustling and getting after balls in the midfield. Our big emphasis is possession and part of that is not letting the opponent get the ball out of its defensive end."

Albion would have piled on more goals if not for a fine performance by Olivet goalkeeper Xavier Vance who collected 14 saves. Alyssa Glenn contributed four goals and two assists, Julie Wood produced a goal and an assist, and McKenzie Bueck tacked on her second goal of the season.

Mackenzie Inman scored five goals for Olivet. Geri Merrell and Taylor Guarnaccia added two goals apiece.

Albion, 6-4 overall and 3-0 against Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rivals, will play its next two contests on the road. The Britons have a Wednesday date at Alma College.
