Box Score 2 HOLLAND, Mich. – Shortstop Davin Montgomery collected five hits, including a game-tying two-run home run in game one, and Craig Conway pitched his second complete game in seven starts this season as Albion College split a baseball doubleheader with Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association doubleheader with Hope College Friday afternoon.
Conway (3-2) struck out seven as Alboin gained a 3-2 victory in game one. Albion advanced the tying run to third base in the seventh inning, but failed to score in a 4-3 setback in game two.
Game One
Albion trailed 2-0 after four innings. Shane Lindemann drew a one out walk in the fifth and Montgomery followed by launching his first home run of the season.
Dan Mills led off the sixth with a single. He advanced to third when Spencer Bonofiglio doubled down the left field line. Joshua Fischer drove in the winning run with a single as Mills crossed the plate.
Hope advanced the tying run to third base with one out in the seventh, but Conway wiggled out of the jam with a strikeout and a ground ball to shortstop.
Game Two
Albion scored in each of the first two innings to take a 2-0 lead. Michael Fischbach hit a sacrifice fly to score Brendan Diamond in the first, and Lee Madziar lifted a sacrifice fly to score Mills in the second.
Hope scored three times in the fourth.
Albion forged a 3-3 tie in the fifth with Fischbach lifted a sacrifice fly and Diamond scored.
Hope scored the winning run in the sixth. Ben Pearson was hit by a pitch to start the inning. He advanced to second on a sacrifice hit and scored on Devin Schaefers' single.
Albion starting pitcher Dylan Woolley deserved a better fate after allowing two earned runs on eight hits and two walks over six innings.
Albion, bow 11-17 overall and 7-11 against MIAA rivals, completes the four-game series with Hope at 1 p.m. Saturday as the teams meet at Albion's Frank Joranko Field for a doubleheader.
