ALMA, Mich. – Mitchell Klingler achieved a season-best time in the 10,000 meters Thursday, and that was good enough for him to earn his first Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association title.

Klingler completed the race in 31:25.35 for a 27-second margin of victory over Calvin's Gabe Gunnink. Kendall Maddox also scored in the race, finishing eighth in 33:43.33.

Albion also received five points from Joshua Lowe. He finished fourth in the long jump with a collegiate-best leap of 21' 10 ¾".

Justin Meredith will try to join Klingler as an event champion on Friday. Meredith turned in the top qualifying time – 10.8 seconds – in the 100 meters and he had the second-best time in the 200 at 22.16 seconds. Meredith will be joined by teammate Justin Ware in the 100 final after Ware qualified seventh in 11.29 seconds.

Alex Goricki also turned in the No. 2 qualifying time in the 110-meter hurdles Thursday, reaching the finish line in 15.8 seconds. Goricki and Ben Kolanowski advanced in the 400 hurdles, with Goricki qualifying third (57.87 seconds) and Kolanowski sxith (1:00.44).

Don Strite turned in the fifth-fastest qualifying time in the 800 meters, completing two laps around the track in 1:57.93.

With 16 points Thursday, Albion sits in sixth place in the team standings but the Britons trail third place Adrian College and Alma College by just five points.
