GREENWOOD, Ind. — Cooper Bright has been named an Academic All-American by the College Sports Communicators (CSC).
The senior earned a spot on the second team and became the first student-athlete in Albion men's track & field/cross country history to be named a CSC Academic All-American. Additionally, he was the lone representative from the MIAA on any of the teams.
His recognition also extends Albion athletics' streak of four consecutive years with at least one student-athlete who earned recognition in their respective sport and is the 35th different CSC Academic All-American the school has produced.
Bright had one of the greatest individual seasons in the program's recent memory. During the outdoor season, the Alpena, Mich., native had a hand in breaking four school records — which included the 100m dash (10.49), 200m dash (21.14), 4x100m relay (41.09) and 4x200m relay (1:26.43) — and became the first Albion runner to earn MIAA Most Valuable Track Athlete honors since Justin Meredith in 2014.
At the MIAA Outdoor Championships, Bright was crowned the 200m dash champion while also placing third in the 100m dash, second in the 4x100m relay and fourth in the 4x400m relay.
After breaking the program record in the 200m dash at GVSU's Last Chance Meet on May 10, Bright's mark was enough to qualify him for the NCAA Outdoor Championships. He received second-team All-American honors by taking 15th in the prelims of the event. It was the first time Albion had representation in the 200m dash at nationals since Meredith in 2014.
Additionally, Bright garnered USTFCCCA All-Region honors in the 100m dash, 200m dash and 4x100m relay in the outdoor season — Albion's first since at least 2016 to earn the recognition in three different events.
During the indoor season, Bright also notched All-Region honors in the 60m dash and earned a spot on the All-MIAA second team after a third-place finish in the 200m dash and second place showing in the 4x400m relay at the MIAA Indoor Championships. He was on the 4x200m relay quartet that broke Albion's program record and notched the second-fastest 60m and 200m dash times in team history.
The four-time MIAA Track Athlete of the Week competed on the Albion track & field team for the last two years, as he originally played basketball for the Britons during his freshman and sophomore seasons.
Academically, Bright graduated with a perfect 4.0 GPA and earned a bachelor's degree in psychology. He was one of 15 student-athletes on all men's Academic All-America teams in Division III to hold a 4.0 cumulative GPA in their undergraduate or graduate programs. Additionally, Bright is a three-time member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll while being an inaugural recipient of the conference's Academic Elite Award last year and received CSC Academic All-District honors earlier this summer.
On campus, Bright was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity as well as AmeriCorps — a national service program that makes a difference in the community through projects such as helping local schools, working on environmental initiatives and supporting public health. In 2025, he received the Scholastic Achievement Award from Phi Beta Kappa — the oldest and most prestigious academic honor society in the United States.
Bright will be attending Michigan State University for a specialist degree in school psychology while working in the Akron-Fairgrove school system near Saginaw Bay.
